The sequence begins with a medium close up of the protagonist lying in bed in asleep then dollys out to a midshot, when she awakes she appears to be in pain or discomfort as she clutches her stomach, this instantly highlights a key convention of the horror genre with the theme of pain. there a continous sound of dog barking in the distance which creates a sense of uneasiness as that could be a earning sign for danger. There is then a straight cut to a wide shot to the girl distressed when she realises she is alone in her bed this shot creates a tense atmosphere with the surrounding darkness and the fact she is alone makes her seem almost vunerable to the audience as she looks unable to protect herself.
