crimson peak sequence

The sequence begins with a medium close up of the protagonist lying in bed in asleep then dollys out to a midshot, when she awakes she appears to be in pain or discomfort as she clutches her stomach, this instantly highlights a key convention of the horror genre with the theme of pain. there a continous sound of dog barking in the distance which creates a sense of uneasiness as that could be a earning sign for danger. There is then a straight cut to a wide shot to the girl distressed when she realises she is alone in her bed this shot creates a tense atmosphere with the surrounding darkness and the fact she is alone makes her seem almost vunerable to the audience as she looks unable to protect herself. The camera then tilts from a low angle of her standing when she gets of from her bed and the dog enters the room passing her; which cuts to a tracking medium close up of Edith wondering around with her candle light which begins to build suspense the dim light in the darkness possibly ...
